Newtown Defenders FB 30th November Special Sash Bash
Calendar: Events Calendar

Newtown Defenders are holding a Special Sash Bash in the Lounge of the Coach and Horses Pub, Dickson Drive, Irvine, on 30th November from 1pm - 5pm. Cultural music will be provided by Sandy Road Flute Band Renfrew. Tickets are priced at £3 from any band member.
The reason for calling it a Special Sash Bash is that recently one of our band members ex-wife was killed whilst trying to save her/his kids from a house fire in Kilwinning. The kids have lost everything and all money raised on the day will be given to Longbody for clothes toys etc for the kids. Hopefully the Loyalist people of Irvine and the surrounding area will support this venture.

As an exile living in Kent Ive only just heard this. I went on the supporters bus from the Three Crows as it was then, for years in the late 70s. Shocking news. I would love to have attended but I cant get out of plans already made.

How can I donate without attending?

So was I. I went to Ravenspark Academy. We used to be up the back of the bus with half bottles of eldorado singing like f*ck. Ah they were the days. Cant mind many names, only Cocky (colin) Greenshields and his brother Gordon.

Cocky is still going strong (havn't seen him for a while though) but unfortunately Gordon died tragically a few years ago. I was one of the younger ones on the bus, only about 14 when I started going.

Christ that has knocked the wind out my sails. Gordon was a bit wild in my day, but a good guy all the same. I was about 15 at the time. Cocy was a good bit older than me. Is the craws a Rangers pub now? Always used to be 50/50.

On behalf of the band I would like to thank the following people/organisations for contributing to a worthy cause and great day.
Sandy Road Flute Band Refrew
Renfrew UPRG
PULSE Resources
Unity and the Cambuslang Volunteers Flute Band
Prince Kid and the Prince of Orange Flute Band Coatbridge
Lilly and Ayr Rising Star LLOL
Croft Bar
Irvine Somme Club
North Ayrshire UPRG
Frankie and the Staff of the 3Craws
Wullie Duncan
Robert Thornton
Jim Armstrong for kindly offering double the use of the limo than originally donated
The Newtown WAGS (all of them who made up the sandwiches)
Dougie and Hobo for getting the Sandy to dig even deeper.
If I have missed anyone then I'm sorry
We raised £1302 and the band have decided that we will make it up to £2000. We had about 100 people attending and I think I can safely say that they enjoyed themselves (maybe not when I was singing though).
George managed to say a thanks as well at what must be a really difficult time for him and his family.
To those who turned up and spent loads of cash THANK YOU.
